The social, cultural and ecclesial transformations triggered by the fast-growing Hispanic/Latino presence demand that Catholics in the United States renew our commitment to communion and justice amidst diversity. The strength of that commitment will depend on whether the larger U.S. Catholic community embraces or resists a practically irreversible process of hispanization. This lecture defines a path forward into what it means to be American Catholic in the rest of the 21st century.
