University Mourns CBA Student

0

Andrea Graven, a sophomore in the College of Business Administration, died suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 16, from an allergic reaction.

“I can only imagine the grief and heartache that Andrea’s family and friends must be feeling today,” said Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham University. “Her death is shocking and terribly, terribly sad. It is an awful blow to lose someone just coming into her own as an adult. The entire Fordham community prays for Andrea, and for her family and friends.”

Graven was at home in Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 12, when she had the allergic reaction. Though she was rushed to the hospital immediately, Graven lapsed into anaphylactic shock from which she never recovered. She is survived by her parents, Hans and Phang Graven, and sisters Christina and Julia Graven.

Student Affairs staff have been reaching out to Graven’s classmates, and will make counseling available to any students who request it. Students should feel free to contact the Counseling Center at (718) 817-3725; Campus Ministry (718) 817-4500; Residential Life (718) 817-3080, or simply contact a resident assistant or resident director to request assistance or to talk. Faculty and staff should contact Christopher Rodgers, dean of students at Rose Hill, with any concerns about students.
