UN Summit Peace Vigil to Be Held at St. Paul’s

NEW YORK- Members of different faiths are invited to join together and make a united call for justice and peace on the eve of the United Nations Millennium Review Summit, during an interfaith prayer vigil on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 415 W. 59th St., New York.

Nearly 200 heads of state will meet at U.N. Headquarters from Sept. 14 to 16 to review progress made toward achieving the anti-poverty goals outlined by the U.N. in 2000 and to finalize a global development agenda for the next 10 years. The leaders will also hear recommendations drafted by the Community Commons, a three-day meeting of grassroots development leaders from 44 countries that took place on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus from June 16 to 18. The meeting was sponsored by Fordham University and the U.N. Development Programme, along with several other agencies.

The prayer vigil is being sponsored by Fordham’s Office of Campus Ministry, the International Movement of Catholic Students, Pax Romana and the Archbishop Hughes Institute on Religion and Culture.
