Ribbon Cutting at Marymount for Butler Scholars Lounge

0

Marymount College welcomed its first class of Butler Scholars to campus with a Sept. 14 ribbon cutting ceremony at the steps leading to the Butler Scholars Honors Lounge.   Seventeen students from across the country and as far away as Romania and Nigeria are the first to be enrolled in the new Butler Scholars Program, which provides talented students with opportunities to conduct original research and graduate with honors. Butler Scholars will take a total of eight honors courses over four years, complete a community service project and write and defend an honors thesis in their senior year. The lounge, which consists of an area for recreation and study and an attached computer room, will be accessible only by keys distributed to the Butler Scholars. Gerard Reedy, S.J., University professor and dean of Marymount College, and Evelyn Gezo, R.D., faculty moderator of the Butler Scholars, joined the group for the ribbon cutting.Photo by Bruce Gilbert
