associate professor of communication and media studies, won the Best Article of 2014 Award from the American Journalism Historians Association for her article “Everything Old Is Never Again: How the ‘New’ User-Generated Women’s Magazine Takes Us Back to the Future.” The article appears in the current issue of American Journalism, 31:3.

Charles C. Camosy, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of theology, presented “‘A Throw-Away Culture’: Speaking About Abortion in the Era of Pope Francis” at the Contemporary Catholic Healthcare Ethics Conference at Loyola University Chicago on Oct. 9.

Jeannine Hill Fletcher, Th.D., A&S,
professor of theology, wrote an article for “Forum: The Future of Catholic Studies” entitled  “Pursuing a Field of Critical Catholic Studies,: in the Fall 2014 issue of American Catholic Studies.

Amir Idris, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of African and African American studies, was quoted in “The Forgotten War in South Sudan” published in Die Presse on Oct. 20.

Beth Knobel, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, was part of a CBS News team that won a 2014 News and Documentary Emmy for coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing. The 48 Hoursshow “Captured,” aired on April 20, 2013, won an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of a Breaking News Story in a News Magazine on Sept. 30.

Michael E. Lee, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of theology, published the essay, “New Eyes and a New Home: Oscar Romero’s Conversion as a Response to Social Sin,” in Witnessing: Prophecy, Politics, and Wisdom, (Maryknoll: Orbis Books, 2014).

Patricia Peek, Ph.D., ADM,
director of undergraduate admission, was panelist in the 2nd Annual New York City Directors of Admission Panel on Oct. 1.

Robert J. Penella, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of classics, published “Silent Orators: On Withholding Eloquence in the Late Roman Empire” in Revue des Etudes Tardo-antiques, Supplement 3 (2014-15) and “Plato (and Others) in the Orations of Themistius: in Plato in the Third Sophistic (de Gruyter, 2014).

John C. Seitz, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, edited and wrote an introduction to “Forum: The Future of Catholic Studies,” in the Fall 2014 issue of American Catholic Studies.

Jim Stoner, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of management systems, presented a short talk “The Ways Our Cultures and Philosophies Shape Solutions for Sustainability” to the New York Area Sustainability Group in New York City on Sept. 11.

Terrence W. Tilley, Ph.D., A&S,
Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J., Chair in Catholic Theology, has contributed a chapter to Invitation to Practical Theology: Catholic Voices and Visions (Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2014) entitled “Practicing the Faith: Tradition in a Practical Theology.”

Frank Werner, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of finance, co-presented “Sustainability Data for Financial Analysis: The State of the Art” at the Annual Meeting of the Financial Management association in Nashville, Tennessee on Oct. 17 and “Integrating Sustainability into Accounting, Finance, and Quantitative Methods Education: A Progress Report” at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Business Education in Savannah, Georgia on Sept. 18 with Jim Stoner, Ph.D., professor of management systems.
