Tom Beaudoin, Ph.D., GRE,
associate professor of practical theology, gave a presentation, “The Challenge of Retaining Active Catholics: ‘Deconversion’ Among Younger and Older Adults Today,” as part of a conference on “Reclaiming and Celebrating Vatican II With a New Generation” at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey, on Oct. 13.

Elaine Congress, D.S.W., GSS,
associate dean of GSS and professor of social work, published the third edition of her book,Multicultural Perspectives in Social Work with Families (Springer Publishing Company, 2012).  She also received the Public Health Social Worker of the Year award from the American Public Health Association (APHA) in October.

Jeanne Flavin, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of sociology, was presented with the 2013 Feminist Activism Award at the annual meeting of Sociologists for Women in Society for her social action, particularly in the areas of reproductive justice, in Denver in August. She was also a featured speaker at the West Virginia Wesleyan College’s third annual gender symposium on Oct. 4.

David S. Glenwick, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, presented “Relationships of Religious Coping and Psychological Mindedness to Adolescent Adjustment” at the American Psychological Association annual convention in Orlando in August.

professor of law, published Racial Subordination in Latin America: The Role of the State, Customary Law, and the New Civil Rights Response (Cambridge University Press, 2012).

Ann Higgins-D’Alessandro, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of psychology, co-edited the Handbook of Prosocial Education (Rowman & Littlefield, 2012).

Beth Knobel, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, spoke on a panel about breaking into journalism at an NBC News’ Education Nation event at the Queens Public Library on Sept. 28.

Mark E. Mattson, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of psychology, published a chapter, “Autobiographical Memories of Grateful Dead Concerts: Two Descriptive Approaches,” in Reading the Dead: A Critical Survey (Scarecrow Press, 2012).

Dean McKay, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, was elected president of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. He also published “Telehealth Approaches to Obsessive-Compulsive Related Disorders” in Psychotherapy Research and a chapter, “Hypochondriasis and Health Anxiety,” in the Handbook of Evidence-Based Practice in Clinical Psychology (Wiley, 2012).

Angela Alaimo O’Donnell, ADM,
associate director for the Curran Center for American Catholic Studies, gave a lecture at the Anselm Institute for Catholic Thought at the University of Virginia on Oct. 4

Nicholas Paul, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of history, published To Follow in Their Footsteps: The Crusades and Family Memory in the High Middle Ages (Cornell University Press, 2012).

Mark S. Silver, Ph.D., BUS,
aassociate professor of information and communications systems and chair of the area, delivered the keynote address, “How to Think about Information Technology,” at the Sixth Annual Israel Association for Information Systems (ILAIS) Conference held at the University of Haifa in July.

Laura Stout Sosinsky, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of psychology, and Se-Kang Kim, Ph.D., A&S, associate professor of psychology, presented two papers, “Parent Selection of Infant Child Care: Professor of Quality, Quantity, and Type of Child Care Arrangements With a Focus on Fathers as Caregivers,” at the Work-Family Researchers Network Conference in New York in June, and “Profiles of Child Care: Parent Selection of Patterns of Child Care Type, Quantity, and Quality,” at the fifth National Research Conference on Child and Family Programs and Policy in Bridgewater, Mass., in July.

Jay C. Wade, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of psychology, was named president of Division 51 (Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity) of the American Psychological Association and was the coordinator of the Third National Psychotherapy With Men Conference in New York in June. He published “Masculinity Ideology, Income Disparity, and Romantic Relationship Quality among Men with Higher Earning Partners” in Sex Roles and presented the Division 51 presidential address, “The Psychological Study of Men: Helping Men Be Better Men,” at the American Psychological Association annual convention in Orlando in August.
