Liturgy To Celebrate 2006 Jesuit Jubilee Year

NEW YORK — Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J., Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University, will preside over a liturgy to celebrate the beginning of a special Jubilee Year for the Society of Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. at the Church of Saint Francis Xavier, 16th St. between 5th and 6th Avenues, New York City.

This year, the Jesuit community is commemorating three historic events: the 450th anniversary of the death of Saint Ignatius Loyola, and the 500th anniversary of the births of St. Francis Xavier and the Blessed Peter Faber. The liturgy, hosted by the New York Province of the Society of Jesus, will mark the beginning of the Jubilee Year celebration of 2006 and observe the Feast of Saint Francis Xavier.
