Fordham to Offer Online Graduate Degrees in Education and Social Work

0

Fordham will be offering new graduate programs online in two areas next year, one with the Graduate School of Education (GSE) and one with the Graduate School of Social Service (GSS), through 2U, the digital degree platform.

“We are happy to expand our reach to more education and social work professionals across the country,” said Stephen Freedman, Ph.D., provost of the University. “The online classes will provide students the opportunity to receive a top-tier graduate education online.”

GSE will offer coursework toward a Master of Science in Teaching (MST) in childhood education, an MST in childhood and special education, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Administration and Supervision (K-through-12) leadership.

At GSS, 2U will power Fordham’s Master of Social Work (MSW), which is currently offered online in a program ranked among the top social work programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

Both the GSE and GSS programs will be new Domestic Graduate Programs for 2U.

“As these fields continue to evolve, it is imperative that we push the boundaries in professional education while providing more opportunities for today’s students,” said Freedman. “Both programs will focus on quality and outcomes, providing a top-tier Fordham experience for a diverse group of students who may not be able to easily attend a residential program.”

Education@Fordham’s MST in childhood education will include a coordinated sequence of courses that progress from foundations and methods of teaching to the development of a professional portfolio. With the support of faculty and field mentors, students will participate in field placements in a wide variety of educational settings. The GSE’s MST in childhood special education will additionally educate professionals who wish to focus their careers on learning and development for children with disabilities. The Ed.D. program will offer a terminal degree to those individuals seeking a focus on K-through-12 leadership.

OnlineMSW@Fordham will combine a top-tier social work education with extraordinary opportunities for local fieldwork in the communities where students live and work. Fordham’s competency- based curriculum is designed to provide students with advanced integrated practice skills. The unique MSW program structure will offer students exceptional choice and personalized plans of study in their area(s) of professional practice interest.

Education@Fordham and OnlineMSW@Fordham are expected to launch in May 2018 and September 2018, respectively. Education@Fordham is pending state approval. Through 2U’s cloud-based software-as-a-service technology platform, students and faculty will be able to meet weekly through live, online class sessions with immersive course content. All classes will be taught by Fordham University faculty.
