COVID-19 Update | Five Things, August 23, 2021

Dear Members of the Campus Community:

Here are this week’s five things you need to know about Fordham’s COVID-19 precautions, vaccinations, and University operations.
Please see the COVID-19 Guidelines on the web for detailed information:
Every issue of Five Things is archived here on our news site:

  • In the last 14 days, 7 members of the University community tested positive for COVID-19, of 61 tests administered, as listed on the University dashboard (We are no longer reporting the positivity rate: the University is only testing individuals who are symptomatic or who believe they were exposed to COVID-19, rendering positivity rates inaccurate.)
  • The University is monitoring the COVID-19 case count on each campus daily: that count, the positivity rate in local community neighborhoods, guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the New York City and state Departments of Health will inform whether the University imposes or relaxes virus precautions on campus.

  • The University currently requires all members of the campus community to wear face masks while indoors (Status Level B, above), with the exception of individuals who are alone in a room.
  • Vaccination Rates:
    • Students Overall:    83%
      • Undergraduate    89%
      • Graduate/PCS     74%
    • Employees Overall:     Not Yet Available
      • Full-Time    95%
      • Part-Time    Currently Being Tabulated
  • The University is offering free disposable KN95 masks that provide superior protection with minimal voice distortion to faculty and staff, available at the Public Safety offices at Rose Hill and Lincoln Center.
  • As alternatives to mass transit, the New York Department of Transportation’s 511NY Rideshare provides free resources for ridesharing, vanpooling, transit, bike sharing, moped sharing, and more. Human Resources will hold a lunch-and-learn session on the program on Wednesday, September 15, at noon.
  • A reminder to faculty and staff that August 30 marks the end of the University’s phased return to campus plan. The vast majority of faculty and staff will resume in-person teaching and work this coming week.
