Conference Promotes Gender Equity in Teaching

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. � Marymount College�s Institute for the Education of Women and Girls will host a conference on �Righting the Angle,� aimed at improving math, science and technology education for girls, on Friday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marymount College of Fordham University in Tarrytown, N.Y.

According to the American Association of University Women, schools are generally failing to prepare girls for the careers that are critical in the modern, technology-centered world. More than a dozen prominent educators will address the issue of gender and math, science and technology education, and will discuss future steps for policy and action. The keynote panel will run from 10 a.m. to noon. Panelists include Marcia Linn, professor at the University of California, Berkeley; Sue V. Rosser, a dean at Georgia Institute of Technology; and Ruta Servo, program director, research, on gender in science and engineering at the National Science Foundation. Valerie Reidy, principal at Bronx High School of Science, will also speak.

The event is free and is open to the public. Registration is from 9:15 to 10 a.m. and space is limited.
