Bronx History Project Honored with Award

0

NEW YORK— Fordham University’s Bronx African American History Project (BAAHP) has been awarded a Black History Month Award by New York State Sen. Jeff Klein (D-Westchester/Bronx). The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made positive contributions to the development of the African American community.

With a database of more than 100,000 transcribed interviews, the BAAHP is uncovering the cultural, political, economic, and religious histories of the more than 500,000 people of African descent in the Bronx. Partnering itself with the Bronx Historical Society and the Community Research Team, the BAAHP also develops Bronx history programs for public schools and sponsors lectures, concerts, and media broadcasts. The award will be presented at Klein’s 2006 Black History Awards Breakfast on Feb. 18.
