Former CEO of Daiichi Sankyo to Lecture at Rose Hill

The former president and CEO of Japanese pharmaceutical giant Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. will speak at Fordham on developing trends in healthcare.

Joseph Pieroni, GSAS ’71, will present “Globalization of Healthcare: Dynamics of Innovation, Profitability and Social Responsibility.”

Pieroni’s lecture aims to familiarize the audience with today’s globalizing healthcare environment. He will explain how the industry is shaped by its constituents, including patients, doctors, governments and multinational institutions such as the World Health Organization.

In addition, Pieroni will discuss the challenges of reimbursing innovation within the industry in light of the need to make healthcare accessible and affordable.

Pieroni has more than 35 years of experience working for such firms as Sandoz, Lederle, Merck and Parke-Davis. He earned a master’s degree in organic chemistry from Fordham and an M.B.A. from Rutgers. He serves on the boards of the Healthcare Institute of New Jersey and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

The lecture is open to the Fordham community, and is co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the International Political Economy and Development program.
