Kirk A. Bingaman, PhD, GRE,
associate professor of pastoral care and counseling, was named a senior investigator for the 2015 Mind and Life Summer Research Institute in Garrison, NY, which focused on Fear and Trust in Self and Society. He also published “Mindfulness and Contemplative Practice: Insights on Neuroplasticity for Pastoral Care and Counseling,” in a special neuroscience edition of Sacred Spaces, the journal of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

Paul and Diane Guenther Chair in American History, published “Firearm Regionalism and Public Carry: Placing Southern Antebellum Case Law in Context”, which was recently listed on Social Science Research Network’s (SSRN) Top Ten download list for AARN: North America (Topic), Culture Area Studies eJournal, and Law & Culture eJournal.

George E. Demacopoulos, PhD, A&S,
Fr. John Meyendorff Patterson Family Chair of Orthodox Christian Studies and co-director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center, presented “Memory and Forgiveness in Orthodox Identity Formation: The Case of the Crusades” at the Bose International Conference on Eastern Christian Spirituality in Bose, Italy on September 12.

professor emeritus of political science, published “Global City Region Governance and Multi-Centered Development: A North American Perspective,” in Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy in September 2015.

Alice E. Marwick, PhD, A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, is a research partner on a $2.5 million grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for research into the vulnerabilities generated by big data surveillance.

Molly Ness, PhD, GRE,
associate professor of curriculum and teaching, published “Beyond Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How: Preparing Students to Generate Questions in the Age of Common Core Standards” in the most recent issue of the Journal of Research in Childhood Education.

Aristotle Papanikolaou, PhD, A&S,
Archbishop Demetrios Chair in Orthodox Theology and Culture, presented the keynote address, “Virtue, Violence and Moral Injury: Maximus the Confessor on Learning How to Love,” at the biennial conference of the Association for the Study of Eastern Christianity at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee on September 18.
