Anita Vazquez Batisti, Ph.D., ADM,
associate dean and director of the Center for Educational Partnerships in the Graduate School of Education, has received an award letter from the New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. She received the Recognition Award at a luncheon in Albany on Nov. 5.

Charles Camosy, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, participated in a panel at Princeton on Oct. 15 and 16 titled “Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Fair Minded Words: A Conference on Life and Choice in the Abortion Debate.”

Robert Chazin, D.S.W., GSS,
professor of social service, presented a paper titled “The Salama Center: An African Approach to Settlement House Work” with two colleagues at the International Federation of Settlements Conference in New York City. He organized and chaired the presentation.

Anne Fernald, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of English, participated on Oct. 16 in a discussion of Orlando, Sarah Ruhl’s movie adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel. She also gave a lecture on Oct. 21 at the New York Public Library about her work as editor of the Cambridge University Press edition of Mrs. Dalloway.

Jeanne Flavin, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of sociology, gave a lecture on Oct. 20 at American
University in Washington, D.C. based on her book, Our Bodies, Our Crimes: Policing Women’s Reproduction in America (NYU Press, 2008). She also convened a seminar, “Writing and Publishing in the Social Sciences,” on Oct. 21 in Washington, D.C., for a group of graduate policy fellows of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

Albert Greco, Ed.D., BUS,
professor of marketing, published “The Market Demand for University
Press Books 2008-2015” in the Journal of Scholarly Publishing
(October 2010). He co-authored the article with Robert M. Wharton, Ph.D., professor of management systems.

Joseph T. Leinhard, S.J., A&S,
professor of theology, delivered the 15th annual Peter Richard Kenrick Lecture, “Pope Benedict XVI, Theologian of the Bible,” on March 18 at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary/Kenrick School of Theology in St. Louis.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, delivered an invited lecture on “Market Segmentation in Media Management and Marketing” on Oct. 8 to a visiting delegation of Chinese media executives at the Picker Center for Executive Education at Columbia University.

Patrick J. Ryan, S.J., A&S,
the Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society, attended a meeting of the United States Jesuits’ Interreligious Dialogue Commission from Oct. 22 to 24 in San Jose, Calif. He met with priests from the Diocese of Brooklyn on Oct. 17 to enrich their understanding of Islam, and gave a presentation on Islam on Oct. 19 at the Communitas dinner for CACS students.

John Shon, Ph.D., BUS,
assistant professor of accounting, co-authored “December Effect: Strategic Prepayments of Deductible State Tax Payments,” in the Fall 2010 issue of Journal of the American Taxation Association.
