Anita Vazquez Batisti, PhD, GSE,
associate dean and director of the Center for Educational Partnerships in the Graduate School of Education, was invited by Ashoka University to become part of the inaugural Changemaker Education Track, which selects a diverse, high-quality group of leaders in the education space, on Feb. 26-28. In addition, she presented “STEM Education and ELLs: Consider the Possibilities” as part of a STEM panel discussion at the TESOL 2015 International Convention & English Language Expo in Toronto, Canada on March 24. Batisti has also been named one of the 25 Bronx Times Influential Women of 2015, where she will be featured in a special edition of the Bronx Times newspaper on May 29.

George Demacopoulos, PhD, A&S,
professor of theology and director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center, presented “Apostolic Succession and Byzantine Theology,” at the Dumbarton Oaks Spring Symposium in Washington, DC on April 24.

John A. Fortunato, PhD, BUS,
professor of communication and media management, published the article “Sponsorship and the Elaboration Likelihood Model: BMW’s 2014 Winter Olympic Brand Strategy” in the Journal of Brand Strategy.

Jennifer Gordon, LAW,
professor of law, was named to National Law Journal’s Outstanding Women Lawyers list in April 2015.

Frank Hsu, PhD, A&S,
Clavius Distinguished Professor of Science and professor of computer and information science, co-edited a special edition of Computer (April 2015), the magazine of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) with Dorothy Marinucci, ADM, executive assistant to the President.

Durba Mitra, PhD, A&S,
assistant professor of history, won the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Penn Humanities Forum for the 2015-16 year.

Brenna Moore, PhD, A&S,
associate professor of theology, published “Cracks in the Theology of Contempt: The French Roots of Nostra Aetate” in Studies in Christian-Jewish Relations.

Ana R. Pires, PhD, A&S,
assistant professor of mathematics, gave a talk at the Research Symposium of the Association for Women in Mathematics, on April 11-12, and another at the CUNY Graduate Center’s Differential Geometry Seminar on April 28.

Noreen Rafferty, ADM,
assistant director of marketing and communications, received the Global Outreach Recognition Award for her behind-the-scenes work to support Global Outreach (GO) at the annual GO Gala on April 18.

Lance Strate, PhD, A&S,
professor of communication and media studies, published a book of poetry entitled Thunder at Darwin Station (NeoPoiesis Press, 2015). In addition, his essay, “Studying Media as Media: McLuhan and the Media Ecology Approach” was published in Spanish translation as “Estudiar los Medios Como Medios: McLuhan y el Enfoque de la Ecología de los Medios,” in Ecología de los Medios: Entornos, Evoluciones e Interpretaciones. Strate also gave a 3-day Master Class on “Media and Violence” March 18-20 and a public lecture on “Media Ecology” March 20 at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City, and a public lecture on “The New Digital Ecology” at Technológico de Monterrey, Campus Santa Fe, on March 17 in Mexico City.

Wilma Tamayo-Abreu, LAW,
administrative and programmatic assistant for the Feerick Center, has been named one of the 25 Bronx Times Influential Women of 2015, where she will be featured in a special edition of the Bronx Times newspaper on May 29.
