Tom Beaudoin, Ph.D., GRE,
associate professor of practical theology, preached at the Lenten Vespers series on March 13 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Manhattan.

Philip A. Florio, S.J., ADM,
director of campus ministry, gave the lecture “Transfiguration of the Lord: A Change in the Heart,” on March 5 as part of a retreat day for students in Catholic colleges in the Archdiocese of New York. The retreat was held at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, N.Y. Archbishop Timothy Dolan was the keynote speaker.

John A. Fortunato, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of communication and media management, published “Catching Classic Sports Moments as They’re Happening” on Jan. 28 in Technology Review, published by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Margo A. Jackson, Ph.D., GSE,
associate professor of counseling psychology, was named chair of the National Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs (CCPTP) at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association. She chaired the 2011 CCPTP Midwinter Conference—“Training for Community Engagement and Prevention: Unique Contributions of Counseling Psychology in Science, Practice, and Social Justice”—from Feb. 10 to 12 in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.

Daniela Jopp, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of psychology, has published “Dealing with Negative Life Events: Differential Effects of Personal Resources, Coping Strategies and Control Beliefs” in the European Journal of Aging.

Beth Knobel, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, spoke on “Russian Journalism Under Pressure” on Feb. 17 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Joseph Koterski, S.J., A&S,
associate professor of philosophy, was a guest speaker in February at the Holy Family Rosary Society at the St. Joseph’s Center in Nutley, N.J. His talk was titled “A Refresher Course in Examining Your Conscience.”

Elizabeth Johnson, C.S.J., A&S,
Distinguished Professor of Theology, lectured on women’s voices in ecological theology on Feb. 28 at Wake Forest University.

Michael E. Lee, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, gave the presentation “God, Power, and Revolution: Politics of Liberation Theology” on Feb. 26 at Case Western Reserve University’s 2011 Jean Donovan International Social Justice Conference: Repression, Resistance and Transformation in Central America.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, spoke in February at “Net Worth: Media Distribution in the Digital Era,” a conference sponsored by the Carsey-Werner Center at the University of California-Santa Barbara. He also consulted with the New York City Comptroller’s Office on the issue of discrimination in advertising.

Carina Ray, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of history and African and African-American studies, participated in a panel discussion on W.E.B. DuBois in February at the Brooklyn Public Library titled “DuBois’s Vision and Pan-Africanism Today.”

Patrick J. Ryan, S.J., A&S,
the Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society, delivered the lecture “Peacemakers: Jewish, Christian and Muslim” on Feb. 10 at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. He served as a director for “Ethics and Advocacy in Humanitarian Action,” a course held in Rome during the week of Feb. 14 that was co-sponsored by Fordham’s Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs. Father Ryan began the Mount Manresa’s Retreat House Centennial Speakers Program with the talk “Muslim-Christian Tensions in the Islamic World” on March 4, and was the featured speaker for the Staten Island Council of Churches Clergy Day.

Lance Strate, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of communication and media studies, published “On the Binding of Biases of Time: And Other Essays on General Semantics and Media Ecology” (Institute of General Semantics, 2011).
