Babette Babich, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of philosophy, gave a lecture on Nietzsche, Hume and causality at the 2011-2012 speaker’s series of the Institute for the Philosophy of Science at the University of Vienna in January. She also spoke on Nietzsche and ancient science at the Technical University of Berlin and on Heidegger and technology at the New School in November.

Sophie Mitra, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of economics, published “A Simple Model of Endogenous Commodity Price Fluctuations with Storage” in the January issue of Agricultural Economics.

Mark Naison, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of African and African American Studies and history, and principal investigator of the Bronx African American History Project (BAAHP), gave a lecture at Columbia Teachers College titled “An Historian’s View of School Reform: How a Crackpot Theory Became National Policy” on Feb. 8.

Maureen H. O’Connell, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of theology, presented “Peacemaking in the Midst of a War Time Presidency” as part of a panel that addressed “Continuity and Change: The Obama Administration on War and Peacemaking” at the Society of Christian Ethics meeting on Jan. 6.

Elliott Palais, Ph.D., ADM,
director of Fordham’s TRIO program, has been appointed by Mayor Michael Spano of Yonkers, N.Y., to the city’s Education Redesign Team, where he will help to make recommendations for innovative reforms to the Yonkers Public School System.

Aristotle Papanikolaou, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of theology and co-founding director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Program, presented “The Ascetics of War: The Undoing and Redoing of Virtue” at the Society of Christian Ethics meeting on Jan. 6. He was also awarded a Sabbatical Grant for Researchers from the Louisville Institute for the academic year of 2012-13.

Robert J. Parmach, Ph.D., ADM,
freshman dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill, published “Doing What’s Right: The Value of the Other Half: Qualifying Cura Personalis” in the Spring 2012 issue of Conversations in Jesuit Higher Education magazine.

Francis Petit, Ed.D., BUS,
associate dean for Executive MBA Programs, presented “Deadly Diseases or Innovative Practices:  How Deming Would View Today’s Executive MBA Industry” at the 18th Annual International Deming Research Seminar on Feb. 28 in New York City.

Alessandro Polcri, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of Italian, received an honorable mention in the Modern Language Association (MLA) competition for the sixth biennial award Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for Italian Studies 2011 for his book Luigi Pulci e la Chimera: Studi Sull’allegoria nel Morgante (Società Editrice Fiorentina, 2010).
