Mary Bly, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of English, gave a lecture, “Shakespeare in Love: From the Renaissance to the Romance,” on Feb. 18 at East Carolina University.

Heather Gautney, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of sociology, has published Protest and Organization in the Alternative Globalization Era (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009).

Allan Hazlett, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of philosophy, edited and contributed a paper to New Waves in Metaphysics(Palgrave-Macmillan, 2010), a collection of new essays.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of communication and media studies and director of the Donald McGannon Communications Research Center was recently named a Knight Media Policy Fellow at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Margaret O’Brien Steinfels, ADM,
co-director of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture, gave a speech, “What’s Lost, What’s Left: American Catholics and the 21st Century,” at the St. Thomas More Newman Center in Columbia, Mo., on Feb. 4, to launch the annual philanthropic Newman Week.

Terry A. Osborn, Ph.D., GSE,
professor and chair of the Division of Curriculum and Teaching, was recently elected president of the International Society for Language Studies (ISLS), an interdisciplinary association of scholars from Europe, Asia, Australia, North America and South America. Osborn’s term as president is from 2010-2012.

Roger Panetta, Ph.D., A&S,
visiting professor of history, spoke and signed copies of his book, The Tappan Zee Bridge and the Forging of the Rockland Suburb, on Feb. 16 at “The Tappan Zee Bridge: Transforming Rockland County,” held at the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, N.Y.

Meir Ribalow, A&S,
artist-in-residence, gave a lecture, “How Hollywood Portrays Arkansas—the Three Most Representative Films,” at Arkansas State University on Feb. 18, sponsored by the university’s Heritage Studies Ph.D. program and the ASU Department of Theatre.

Stanley Veliotis, Ph.D., LAW,
assistant professor of taxation, has published “IRA Choices: To Convert or Not to Convert,” in the January 2010 CPA Journal, co-authored with Robin Knowles.
