HOW MUCH: $25,000

WHAT FOR: Untangling Web 2.0 Use in the Human Services:Understanding How
Human Service Organizations Engage in ElectronicAdvocacy Strategies to
Impact Social Change. This project explores how nonprofit leaders are utilizing
social media and other interactive web tools for policy advocacy and
organizational sustainability goals.


WHO GAVE IT: The National Cancer Institute

WHO GOT IT: Patricio Meneses, Ph.D., associate professor of biology,
Department
of Biological Sciences

HOW MUCH: $202,341 (current year); $382,932 (two-year total)

WHAT FOR: To study human papillomaviruses (HPV), which can cause
cervical cancer, in hopes of finding low-cost ways of preventing infection
that could be used in developing countries.


WHO GAVE IT: The U.S. Army

WHO GOT IT: Greg Recine, visiting assistant professor, Department of Physics

HOW MUCH: $25,000

WHAT FOR: To contribute to an in-house Army project to develop low-cost,
miniature military optics and sensor systems.
