Silvia C. Finnemann, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of biology, published “Dietary Antioxidants Prevent Age-Related Retinal Pigment Epithelium Actin Damage and Blindness in Mice Lacking µvb5 Integrin” in the December 2011 issue of Free Radical Biology & Medicine.

Mary Ann Forgey, Ph.D., GSS,
associate professor of social work, was the invited speaker on Dec. 16 at the Brooklyn Veteran Affairs Hospital Grand Rounds program. She presented her research on the patterns of intimate partner violence and associated risk factors within the U.S. Army and the implications for the practice of assessment.

Sarah V. Gambito, A&S,
assistant professor of English, published two new poems: “New Father” in Drunken Boat on Nov. 1 and “Holiday 2” in Black Clock on Oct. 2.

Laura Gonzalez, Ph.D., BUS,
assistant professor of finance and business economics, published “Online Social Lending: A Peak at U.S. Prosper and U.K. Zopa” in the Journal of Accounting, Finance and Economics in December.

Irene A. Gutheil, DSW, GSS,
professor of social work, published “Preschool Children’s Attitudes Toward Older Adults: Comparison of Intergenerational and Traditional Day Care” with Janna Heyman, Ph.D., associate dean, in theJournal of Intergenerational Relationships.

Amir H. Idris, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of African and African-American studies, published a column titled “Reframing Citizenship in Two Sudans” on Dec. 9 in Sudan Tribune. He was interviewed by Voice of America about the death of a rebel leader in South Sudan on Dec. 21.

Tina Maschi, Ph.D., GSS,
assistant professor of social work, published Social Worker as Researcher: Integrating Research with Advocacy (Pearson, 2012).

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor and area chair of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, published an editorial on the FCC’s retransmission consent rules in The Hill. He also co-authored the report “Mapping Digital Media: United States,” which was published in December by the Open Society Institute. In November, he delivered a presentation on “Social Media and the Public Interest” at a workshop on the Governance of Social Media co-sponsored by the McGannon Center and hosted by Georgetown University. In December, he delivered the presentation “Social Media, Television, and the Evolution of the ‘Institutionally Effective’ Audience” at MIT.

Angela Alaimo O’Donnell, ADM,
associate director for the Curran Center for American Catholic Studies, gave a lecture on “Gerard Manley Hopkins: His Poetics and Poetry” on Dec. 15 for the Crossroads Cultural Center. She published two poems: “What Mary Knew” on Dec. 19 in America and “Emmanuel” on Dec. 13 in The Christian Century. She also published “Broken by Mercy: Poetry and the Paradox of Faith” inChristianity & Literature.

 

Costas Panagopoulos, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of political science and director of the Center for Electoral Politics, has published “Firing Back: Out-Party Responses to Presidential State of the Union Addresses, 1966-2006,” inPresidential Studies Quarterly.

Troy L. Tassier, Ph.D., A&S,associate professor of economics, published “Depth to Bedrock and the Formation of the Manhattan Skyline, 1890-1915” in the Journal of Economic History.
