On Aug. 25, Fordham students worked on service projects throughout Manhattan and the Bronx as part of Urban Plunge, a pre-orientation program for first-year students with a passion for community service and social justice. The three-day program attracted more than 175 new students, who worked at several community sites painting, packing food, pulling weeds, and more.

Charlotte Hakikson, an Urban Plunge volunteer working with the Bronx River Resources, said it was good for the new Fordham students to find out about the communities and areas were they are going to school.

“It helps [students]figure out ways you want use your privilege to benefit the communities that we are inhabiting,” said the Rose Hill junior.
