An Honor for a Bishop from the Bronx

On Friday, March 20, Fordham welcomed Bishop John Jenik to the University Church. A Fordham alumnus, he has served his entire 45-year career with the church in the Bronx. In August 2014, he was ordained an auxiliary bishop for the archdiocese of New York.

A longtime community activist for affordable housing and safer communities, Bishop Jenik had once been dubbed “the priest with the bulletproof vest” for his work routing drug dealing from the Bedford area of the Bronx. He was presented with a handmade crozier, carved for him by the Fordham carpenters. (Photo by Michael Dames)
