In his eighth annual visit to New York City, Dr. Paul R. Fleischman, author, psychiatrist, and Vipassana meditation teacher in the tradition of S.N. Goenka, will be giving a public talk called, “Vipassana Meditation—A Practical and Spiritual Path.” This event will be organized by the Fordham South Asian Business Association and
New York Vipassana Association.

Dr. Fleischman will discuss Vipassana meditation, which in the tradition of S.N. Goenka is taught in free, donation-funded, ten-day residential retreats. It combines a focus upon practical, cognitive, and emotional skills for living life with equanimity, along with an additional emphasis on a spiritual path that echoes the teachings of the Buddha. Students on a ten-day retreat are challenged to observe themselves as minds and bodies, which can be trained to live with greater peace and harmony. They also are guided towards the values of pro-social living, and activities that contribute to more widespread availability of meditation in the contemporary world. Vipassana is both useful and a doorway to an inspired daily practice.

The talk will be followed by a 30-minute Q&A session where Dr. Fleischman will answer questions from audience members.
