Join us for a performance by the Two Rivers ensemble, including founder and musical director Amir ElSaffar and vocalist Hamid Al-Saadi, that combines the essence of the Iraqi Maqam’s rouhiya (spiritual essence), swing, improvisation, and the spontaneity of jazz. The performance will be introduced by Mohamed Alsiadi, senior lecturer in Arabic at Fordham, and Whitney Slaten, assistant professor of music at Bard College.

This event is part of the 2019–2020 Middle Eastern and North African concert and lecture series organized by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures with the generous support of the arts and sciences deans; the departments of anthropology, sociology, music, and theology; the programs in comparative literature and Jewish studies; and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
