This year marks the 50th anniversary of the implementation of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act (Hart and Celler Act). With this act, family reunification became a guiding principle, and helped make the United States in general and New York in particular much more diverse as we welcomed new immigrant families from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Now, 50 years later, the family reunification act (as it is sometimes known) faces its greatest challenge. This conference will focus on the implementation of this act, current challenges, and advocacy efforts to address these threats.
