Student-Athletes Receive A-10 Academic Honors

The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the fall 2010 semester. A total of 1,296 student-athletes were recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the fall semester, including 108 from Fordham.

To be listed on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.

The 108 Fordham student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll is third best among Atlantic 10 schools. La Salle led the conference with 124 student-athletes, while Massachusetts had 113.

Fordham led Atlantic 10 Jesuit schools, followed by Saint Louis (89), Xavier (83) and Saint Joseph’s (75).

Men’s track and field/cross country led the way with 19 members on the honor roll, followed by women’s track and field/cross country (14), rowing (11) and women’s swimming and diving (10). Women’s soccer and men’s soccer each had eight players on the list, while volleyball had seven and men’s swimming, softball and men’s tennis each had six. Golf (5), baseball (4), women’s tennis (3) and women’s basketball (1) also were represented.

“The commitment from each of these student-athletes in pursuing excellence in the classroom and during competition is a great representation of their institution and the Atlantic 10 Conference,” said Atlantic 10 Commissioner Berna­dette V. McGlade.

The men’s cross country/track and field squad led all Fordham teams with 19 members named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, including Kevin Fitzgerald (6), Julian Saad (16) and Matt Collins (4).
