Fordham Swimming Competes in 12th Annual Dolphin Sea Swim

While the New York area got a touch of winter weather this week, the Fordham swimming team took off on their annual winter training trip to St. Croix in Virgin Islands.

The Rams take part in a number of dry land workouts, as well as indoor and outdoor pool practices.

One of the open competitions that Fordham takes part in is the Annual Dolphin Sea Swim, which is a mile-long open water competition. In the 12th edition of the race, which took place on Jan. 23, Fordham had the top individual performer in both the men’s and women’s competitions.  Steve Sholdra finished first in the men’s race by 1:15 over the second place finisher with a time of 21:55.

He was one of seven Rams in the top 20 finishers along with Miguel Mattox (5th – 23:25), Ethan D’Arcangelo (7th – 23:40), Andrew Glockenmeier (11th – 24:00), Tommy Christensen (14th – 24:25), andChris Viera (19th – 24:50).

On the women’s side, Natalie Malicki took first place with a time of 23:52, which was 43 seconds ahead of teammates Megan Polaha and Erin McBride, who were second and third respectively in 24:35.

Including the top three finishers, the Rams added 10 more swimmers in the top 20 places. Marie Feneron was fourth in 24:58, followed by Kalena Laurent(6th – 25:05), Jacqueline Dominger (7th – 25:43), Megan Gehrich (11th – 26:18), Shannon Lulley (T12th – 26:19), Anna Marshall (15th – 26:26), Katie Giuliani (16th – 26:36), Siobhan Dale (17th – 26:45), Julia Day (19th – 27:06), and Chandler Lulley (20th – 27:21).

The Rams return home next week to begin second semester classes, as well as pick up their schedule on Friday, Jan. 22, when the Rams host Iona at 4 p.m..  The meet location was changed from New Rochelle to the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
