WFUV Partners with New Video Platform

Fordham’s public radio station WFUV (90.7/wfuv.org) has partnered with five other public radio stations to create a free online clearinghouse of videos and live-streamed concerts by some of today’s hottest new artists.

The site, VuHaus, (pronounced View House) is a new video platform and mobile app featuring performances both in studio and on location by ‘FUV and stations KCRW (Los Angeles), KEXP (Seattle), WXPN (Philadelphia), KUTX (Austin), and KTBG The Bridge (Kansas City), all recognized as musical tastemakers and must-stop destinations for artists on concert or album release tours.

WFUV General Manager Chuck Singleton said that since the station posted its first video, “Love Is New” by Broken Social Scene, in 2008 on YouTube, viewership has grown to more than one million views per month. Today, the station’s videos are shot and produced to the highest professional standards by Fordham University students working at WFUV.

Among the thousands of videos that WFUV is sharing through VuHaus are

Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear, live at SxSW;

Courtney Barnett at Electric Lady Studios;

and Lake Street Dive at the Clearwater Revival.

“We can’t underestimate the impact of a great live performance captured on video or the role video plays in music discovery these days,” he said.

“We’re excited to collaborate with these fine stations, and have our superb videos reach an even wider audience through VuHaus.”

Program Director Rita Houston said working on the Public Radio Rocks South by Southwest Day Stage Showcase on March 20 illustrated the power of public radio stations working together.

That six-hour live broadcast from Austin was made possible through a partnership with WXPN in Philadelphia, KUTX in Austin, KXT in Dallas and The Current in Minneapolis.

“WFUV is part of a community of music lovers, and with this collaboration that community has gotten bigger,” she said.

Among the features of VuHaus are:

Artist of the Week: A playlist of one particularly hot artist’s most enthralling performances.  The Artist of the Week will also program its own playlist from VuHaus’ video archives.

The Local Spotlight: An interview with a band or artist(s) based in a VuHaus member station’s market, along with an article about them by the local station, and a video playlist of their hottest gigs.

Playlists: Curated playlists by VuHaus, artists and member stations.
