NEW YORK—Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press, will deliver the keynote address at Fordham University’s 159th Commencement on May 22, 2004, at 1 p.m. on Edwards Parade at the Rose Hill campus, 441 E. Fordham Road, Bronx, N.Y.

Russert, who has been the host of Meet the Press for 12 years, is also a political analyst forNBC Nightly News and the Today show. He anchors The Tim Russert Show on CNBC, is a contributing anchor for MSNBC, and a senior vice president and Washingtonbureau chief of NBC News. He has received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in Television Journalism, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Journalism Award, the Joan S. Barone Award and the David Brinkley Award for Excellence in Communications. He has also received 29 honorary degrees from American colleges and universities.

Russert will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters. Also receiving honorary doctorates will be R. Scott Appleby, Ph.D., professor of history and director of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame; Margaret A. Farley, R.S.M., Ph.D., the Gilbert L. Stark Chair in Christian Ethics and co-chair of the Interdisciplinary Bioethics Project at Yale University; Lady Helen Hamlyn, the chairman of the Helen Hamlyn Trust, a charitable organization that supports medical research, humanitarian concerns and the arts; the Rev. Vincent M. Novak, S.J., Ph.D., the founding dean of Fordham’s Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education, who is retiring after 47 years of service at Fordham; and the Honorable George Bundy Smith, LL.B, Ph.D., associate judge of the New York Court of Appeals.
