NEW YORK— Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión, City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera, several other elected and appointed officials, Fordham administrators and guests will be on hand for the long-awaited groundbreaking of the $32.5 million Fordham Regional Parking Facility on Friday, June 10, at 11:30 a.m. in Parking Lot H on the University’s Rose Hill campus.

The new five-story structure is expected to reduce parking and traffic congestion along the eastern segment of the bustling Fordham Road commercial corridor, which is the most vibrant retail center in the Bronx. The 1,546-space lot will be built on 4.6 acres at the southeastern tip of the Rose Hill campus and will provide both short-term and long-term paid parking, serving both the general public and University needs.

This intermodal transportation facility is expected to open in 2006, after which Fordham will provide shuttle service to and from the University, the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, the Belmont-Arthur Avenue neighborhood and shopping district, and the adjacent Metro North Rail Line for parking facility patrons.
