Fordham University public radio station WFUV 90.7 FM was honored with seven Public Radio News Directors Incorporated Awards at the organization’s annual conference on July 21. Winning more awards than any other participating radio station, WFUV took home awards in the categories of:

•    Public  Affairs  Show,  First  Place—Assistant News & Public Affairs Director George Bodarky for Cityscape: “NYC’s Diabetes Dilemma”
•    Use of Sound, First Place—Graduate student Producer Jody Avirgan for “The Plaza”
•    Newscast, Second Place—News  & Public  Affairs  Director Julianne Welby,  George  Bodarky  and  the  WFUV  News Team for WFUV Election Coverage
•    Interview, Second Place—Julianne Welby for “Escape from Bellevue”
•    Documentary, Second Place—Julianne Welby, George Bodarky, University Producer Nora  Flaherty and  Fordham  graduate  Julie Mashack for “Lower Manhattan Diaries”

WFUV student employees Kathleen McNerney and Scott Detrow won first and  second  place  awards,  respectively, for Best Newscast in the student  category, with McNerney also winning a $500 PRNDI scholarship.

WFUV  has  accumulated 26 awards for its excellence in programming  so far in 2007. WFUV is a noncommercial, listener-supported public  radio station, licensed to Fordham University for 60 years. Serving nearly 350,000  listeners  each week in the New York area and thousands more  worldwide  on  the  web,  and  a  leader in contemporary music radio, WFUV  offers an eclectic mix of rock, singer-songwriters, blues, world and other  music with its influential City Folk format, plus headlines from National  Public Radio, local news and sports and Metro Traffic.
