Despite a flurry of year-round research activity, the Louis Calder Center biological field station remains a quiet oasis. The University’s student-researchers are welcomed at the center to study on the grounds, or in the Calder Hall mansion’s library. The labs are home to a number of faculty-mentored student projects. Metro North drops at the North White Plains station, where a Ram Van picks up to transport the rest of the way to the 113-acre preserve.

Tom Stoelker is senior staff writer and visual media coordinator for Fordham News. After fifteen years as a freelance designer, Tom shifted his focus to writing and photography. He graduated from Lehman College, CUNY where he majored in English literature and photography and he received his master's in journalism from Columbia University.
