Fordham University senior Kerstin Greene closed out the indoor track and field season with a bang, earning All-America honors with a fourth place showing in the pentathlon at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the University of Arkansas on March 10. The finish is the highest ever for a Fordham woman at the NCAA Championships.

Greene scored 4,202 points in the event, finishing behind Arizona State’s Jacquelyn Johnson (4,393), Washington State’s Diana Pickler (4,339) and Wisconsin’s Melissa Talbot (4,225) in the 16-competitor field. The 4,202 points shatters her school record of 4,031, set last week at the ECAC Championships.

Greene tied for first in the high-jump competition of the pentathlon, jumping 5′ 11.25″, which broke her old school record of 5′ 8″, also set last week at the ECAC Championships. She also took sixth in both the long jump and the 800-meter race, which she covered in 2:19.67.

In the other pentathlon events, Greene placed 12th in both the shot put and the 60-meter hurdles.

Greene qualified for the championships by winning the pentathlon for the second straight season at the ECAC Championships. She took the gold this year with a then school-record score of 4031 points, shattering her former school record of 3818 in the event set in 2005.

She won the pentathlon long jump competition, with a leap of 19′ 2.5″, again shattering her former school record of 18′ 11.75” set earlier this winter. She also tied for first in the high jump with a jump of 5′ 8″, breaking her former school record of 5’ 7″ set earlier this year, and she took second in the shot put with a toss of 37′ 9.5″.

Greene took seventh in the other two events of the pentathlon, the 60-meter hurdles (9.01) and the 800-meter hurdles (2:21.82).

This winter, Greene also earned the Atlantic 10 Field Performer of the Year award, winning the triple jump competition at the conference championship meet to garner First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors with a school record mark of 40′ 9″. Her mark was also an Atlantic 10 Championship record, besting the old record of 40′ 6 1/2″ set by Rhode Island’s Pascale Delaunay in 2004.

Greene also earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the long jump and high jump events, placing second in the long jump with a school record leap of 18′ 11 1/2″, while clearing 5′ 7″ in the high jump for runner-up status.

Her final school record came in the 55-meter hurdles, as she placed fourth in a time of 8.32 seconds. Of the three records, Greene already held the long jump and triple jump records, while the hurdles record was previously held by Tara DiLuca, set in 2000 with a time of 8.44.

Bryant Dunston, a junior on the Fordham men’s basketball team, was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 second team, and junior Marcus Stout was named an honorable mention in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Additionally, Dunston was also named Second Team All-District for the second straight year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Dunston, who was also an All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2006, averaged 14.5 points per game, second best on the team and 16th best in the Atlantic 10, along with a team-best 7.2 rebound per game, ninth best in the conference.

Over his three-year career, Dunston has accumulated 1,382 career points, good for eighth on the Fordham all-time scoring list, and 709 career rebounds, good for tenth place on the school’s all-time rebounding list.

Stout finished the season averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game, 12th best in the Atlantic 10, while also leading the team in 3-point shots made (74) and steals (49).

Over his three-year career, Stout has scored 1,271 points, placing him 13th on the all-time scoring list. He also is among the all-time leaders in three-pointers made, hitting 186 in his career, fourth on the all-time list.

The Rams closed out the 2006-07 season with an 18-12 overall record, 10-6 in the Atlantic 10, which tied them for fourth place. The ten Atlantic 10 wins are the most for a Fordham team since the Rams joined the conference in 1995-96 while the 18 overall wins are the most for Fordham since the 1991-92 squad went 18-13, Fordham’s last winning season prior to this year.
