McGinley Professor of Religion and Society, delivered the lecture “Catholic Colleges and Universities Today” at the inauguration of Francesco Cesareo (GSAS ‘84, ‘86), Ph.D., as president of Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. on Oct. 11. He also presided at the Inaugural Mass and the Installation Ceremony of Cesareo.

Maria Farland, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of English, has won the Constance M. Rourke Prize from the American Studies Association, for the best article of 2006 in American Quarterly. Farland’s essay, “W. E. B. DuBois, Anthropometric Science, and the Limits of Racial Uplift,” appeared in the December 2006 issue.

Giaconda Marún, Ph.D., A&S,
associate chair in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, has published “La Narrativa de Roberto Ampuero en la Globalización Cultural” in Alba de América. She also delivered a paper “No Será la Lierra de Jorge Volpi: Nuevos Paradigmas de la Literatura Hispanoamericana,” at the XXIX Simposio Internacional de Literatura in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in August.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
Magis Professor of Communication and Media Management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, co-authored “Toward a Federal Data Agenda for Communications Policymaking” in CommLaw Conspectus: The Journal of Communication Law & Policy.

Mitchell Rabinowitz, Ph.D., GSE,
chair of the Division of Psychological and Educational Services, presented with William Whitten II, director of the Center for Learning in Unsupervised Environments at Fordham and collaborator Sandra Whitten, the paper “Are Guided Cognition Learning Advantages the Result of Novelty?” at the 12th Biennial Conference of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction in Budapest, Hungary.

Asif Siddiqi, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of history, delivered a speech at the plenary session of the International Astronautical Congress in Hyderabad, India, in September. The plenary session was held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik.
