Paul Elie (FCRH ‘87), author of The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2003), was the featured guest on Speaking of Faith, with Krista Tippett, a weekly program on religion, meaning, ethics and ideas, produced by American Public Media and aired on National Public Radio on September 28.

Elie is a senior editor with Farrar, Straus and Giroux. His book focuses on four American Catholic writers, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day, Flannery O’Connor and Walker Percy, whose lives and works spanned most of the 20th Century, and who shared a belief that reading and writing are acts of pilgrimage, ways to seek truth and come to a better understanding of tradition and personal faith.

FORDHAM magazine profiled Elie and his book in its Winter 2004 issue, in “Read for Your Life.”
The entire Speaking of Faith episode featuring Elie is available on American Public Media’s website in various formats.
