associate professor of biological sciences, attended the 2009 Meeting of the ARVO International Society for Ocular Cell Biology in Portugal on Sept. 9-13. Her graduate student gave a presentation on Finnemann’s lab’s research, “Distinct Domains in the beta5-Integrin Cytoplasmic Tail Are Required for Receptor Adhesive Function and Polarity.”

The training of volunteers will begin in October.

professor of law, gave a speech at the 2009 “Firearms Law & The Second Amendment Symposium” held Sept.12, at Northwestern University Law School, in Chicago, Ill. This event was sponsored by the NRA Foundation and the Northwestern University chapter of the Federalist Society.
Matthew McGowan, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of classics, published his first book, Ovid in Exile: Power and Poetic Redress in the Tristia and Epistulae ex Ponto (Brill, 2009). His article, “Metamorphoses in Belfast: The Ovidian Transformations of Michael Longley,” appeared in the Summer 2009 volume of Classical Outlook. He was recently appointed to the American Philological Association’s Committee on the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae and elected president of the New York Classical Club.
Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, provided expert testimony in two separate ongoing U.S. Government Accountability Office investigations dealing with media policy. Napoli also published a book chapter titled “Media Economics,” in Media Industries: History, Theory, and Methods (Blackwell, 2009).
