Babette Babich, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of philosophy, published, La Fin de la Pensée? Philosophie Analytique Contre Philosophie Continentale (Paris: L’Harmattan, 2012). She also published “The Birth of kd lang’s Hallelujah out of the ‘Spirit of Music’: Performing Desire and ‘Recording Consciousness’ on Facebook and YouTube” in Perfect Sound Forever: Online Music Magazine’s Oct/Nov 2011 issue.

Leonard Cassuto, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of English; his book, Hard-Boiled Sentimentality: The Secret History of American Crime Stories (Columbia University Press, 2008) has been published in Korean by Mujintree Press.

Celia Fisher, Ph.D., A&S,
Marie Ward Doty University Chair and professor of psychology, published, “Ethics in Pediatric Environmental Health Research” in the Encyclopedia of Environmental Health; “The Responsible Conduct of Psychological Research” in the Handbook of Ethics in Psychology; and “Ethical Issues in Mental Health Research: The Case for Community Engagement” in Current Opinions in Psychiatry.  She gave an invited address, “Moral Distress Among Front-Line Research Workers,” at the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies in New York in February.

David S. Glenwick, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, published “Correlates of Attachment Perceptions in Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders,” in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.

Quamrul Haider, Ph.D., A&S,
professor and chair of physics, won the 2012 Independence Award in the category of “Contributions to Science by an Expatriate,” presented by the Bangladeshi government on March 26.

Ron Jacobson, Ph.D., ADM,
associate vice president for academic affairs, and professor of communication and media studies, wrote the Afterword to Teaching, Learning, and the Net Generation: Concepts and Tools for Reaching Digital Learners (IGI Global Publishing, 2012).

Paul Kantor, Ph.D., A&S,
professor emeritus of political science, co-edited American Urban Politics in a Global Age, 7th Edition(New York: Pearson Longman, 2012). He also co-authored “The Politics of Urban Growth and Decline,” in The Oxford Handbook of Urban Politics (New York: Oxford, 2012).

Beth Knobel, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, delivered a presentation at the conference “Is the Cold War Over? Russia and US Media from Perestroika to the 2012 Elections,” at Columbia University on March 20.

Dean McKay, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor and area chair of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, delivered a presentation, “Retransmission Consent and Broadcaster Commitment to Localism,” at a congressional briefing on Television in the 21st Century, held on Capitol Hill on Feb. 27. He also delivered a presentation, “Social Media, Television, and the Evolution of the ‘Institutionally Effective’ Audience,” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in December.

Jim Stoner, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of management systems, co-edited Managing Climate Change Business Risks and Consequences: Leadership for Global Sustainability (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012).

Elliott S. Palais, Ed.D., ADM,
director of TRIO, was appointed to the Education Redesign Team by Michael Spano, mayor of Yonkers, to review costs and determine how to consolidate some of the educational services.

Manoj Pardasani, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of social work and faculty research scholar at the Ravazzin Center on Aging, won an award from the National Institute of Senior Centers for “21st Century Senior Centers: Changing the Conversation, A Study of NYC’s Senior Centers” on March 28 in Washington, D.C.

Larry Stempel, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of music, received the 2012 Irving Lowens Book Award of the Society for American Music for Showtime: A History of the Broadway Musical Theater (New York & London: W.W. Norton & Co., 2010).

Lance Strate, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of communication and media studies, published “Sounding Out Ong: Orality Across the Media Environments,” in Of Ong and Media Ecology: Essays in Communication, Composition, and Literary Studies (Hampton Press, 2012); “If It’s Neutral, It’s Not Technology” in Educational Technology; and “Drugs: The Intensions of Humanity” in Drugs and Media: New Perspectives on Communication, Consumption and Consciousness.

Harold Takooshian, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, was the first author of “Do U.S. Fulbright Scholarships Change Lives?” in theInternational Psychology Bulletin of the American Psychological Association.

Stanley Veliotis, Ph.D., BUS,
assistant professor of accounting and taxation, published “The Effect of Taxes on Conventional Preferred Stock: Evidence from the 2003 JGTRRA Dividend Tax Reduction,” in the Spring 2012 issue of Journal of the American Taxation Association.
