chair of the Division of Educational Leadership Administration and Policy and executive director of the Center for Catholic School Leadership and Faith-based Education, published “Faith-based Charter Schools: An Idea Whose Time is Unlikely to Come,” in Religion & Education Journal (Spring 2009).

J. Alan Clark, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of biology, spoke on “Penguins in Peril: How Climate Change Impacts Penguins Worldwide,” at the Katonah Memorial House in Katona, N.Y. on Oct. 14, in a talk sponsored by the Bedford Audubon Society.

John Entelis, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of political science, served as honorary chair for the High Atlas Foundation’s Fifth Annual New York City reception, held Nov. 6 in New York. The group raised funds for tree planting in rural Moroccan communities.

Anthony J. Ciorra, Ph.D., GRE,
dean of the Graduate School of Religion & Religious Education, was one of four 2009 honorees at the Bronx Celebration of Italian Heritage & Culture Month event, held Oct. 22 at the Enrico Fermi Cultural Center in the Bronx.

professor of marketing, gave a presentation on “The Future of Reading: The Page Race, Enter the Publishers and Librarians,” at the Library of Congress’s 26th Annual Forum on Federal Information Policies, held Oct. 22 in Washington, D.C.

Kathleen P. King, Ed.D., GSE,
professor of education, has edited Digital Media in Higher Education. SERIES: Higher Education Critical Topics: 21st Century Perspectives for Research and Practice (Information Age Publishing, 2009.)

Beth Knobel, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of communication and media studies, has received the 2009 Beacon Exemplar Award from the United Student Government at Rose Hill for her work as faculty advisor to The Ram, and for bringing CNN anchor John Roberts to Fordham earlier this year.

James A. Lothian, Ph.D., BUS,
distinguished professor of finance and director of the Frank J. Petrilli Center for Research in International Finance, published “Milton Friedman’s Monetary Economics and the Quantity-Theory Tradition” and “The Behavior of Money and Other Economic Variables: Two Natural Experiments” in the Journal of International Money and Finance. He also published an article on Pope Benedict XVI’s social encyclical Caritas in Veritate, “Masterful Insights in New Encyclical, but Some Ambiguities,” in the Brandsma Review.

John P. McCarthy, Ph.D, A&S,
professor emeritus of history, published an article on the American Irish Historical Society’s award to the president of Notre Dame University, “The Society Reaches out to the Subway Alumni,” in the Oct. 14 edition of the Irish Echo.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, published “Media Ownership: Policy Lessons from the U.S.” in the September 2009 issue of Intermedia.

Michael Peppart, Ph.D., A&S,
instructor of theology, has published critical editions of two unpublished Greek papyri in Zeitschrift fur Papyrologie und Epigraphik (2009). He also published “Music,” in the Eerdmans Dictionary of Early Judaism (2009); and “Disgrace: A New Report Details Religious Abuse at Guantanamo,” in the June 19 issue of Commonweal.

Francis Petit, Ed.D., BUS,
assistant dean and director of Executive Programs, presented “Lessons Learned in Repositioning and Reinventing a Jesuit EMBA Brand” at the 12th Annual Colleagues in Jesuit Business Education Conference in Kansas City, Mo., in July.

Alessandro Polcri, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of Italian, published a book of poems, Bruciare l’acqua (Edizioni della Meridiana, 2008). The collection won the “Coppa del Giornale La Nazione” of the Italian National Poetry Prize “Le Muse-Pisa” for 2009.

Thierry Rigogne, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of history, presented “Arguing over Coffee: Science and Commerce in the Medical Controversies over Coffee (17th-18th Centuries),” at the annual meeting of the Western Society for French History in Boulder, Colo., on Oct. 24.

Travis L. Russ, Ph.D., BUS,
assistant professor of business, has published “Developing a Typology of Perceived Communication Challenges Experienced by Frontline Employees During Organizational Change,” in Qualitative Research Reports in Communication.

Daniel J. Sullivan, S.J., Ph.D., A&S,
professor emeritus of biology, has published “Hyperparasitism” in the new 2nd edition ofEncyclopedia of Insects (Elsevier Science, 2009).
