Benjamin Dunning, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, has published “Virgin Earth, Virgin Birth: Creation, Sexual Difference, and Recapitulation in Irenaeus of Lyons,” in the January 2009 issue of Journal of Religion.

Christina Gerhardt, Ph.D., A&S,
lecturer of German, Department of Modern Languages, has received grants from the DAAD, the MLA, and the Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung at Potsdam, N.Y., for her current book project, Critique of Violence: The Trauma of Terrorism. She recently published “Surveillance Mechanisms in Literature and Film: Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum by Böll and Schlöndorff/Von Trotta,” in Literature and Film. Gegenwartsliteratur 7.

Qin Gao, Ph.D., GSS,
assistant professor of social work, received the National Association for Social Workers-New York City Chapter Emerging Social Work Leaders Award on Dec. 4. Gao was honored for her “visionary and exemplary work” as an educator, researcher, and practitioner.

David S. Glenwick, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of psychology, presented three papers, “Relationships of Adolescent Religious Coping and Spirituality to Adjustment/Distress,” “Stress and Coping in Children and Adolescents with Fibromyalgia,” and “Effects of Humor on Preschoolers’ Motor Tasks Performance,” at the American Psychological Association’s annual convention in Boston.

Se-Kang Kim, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of psychology, has been appointed associate editor of Applied Psychological Measurement and a consulting editor of Psychological Assessment.

Karina Martin Hogan, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, has published Theologies in Conflict in 4 Ezra: Wisdom Debate and Apocalyptic Solution (Leiden: Brill, 2008).

Michael E. Lee, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of theology, gave a lecture, “Standing Before the Crucified: the Life and Theology of Ignacio Ellacuría, S.J.,” at St. Peter’s College on Nov. 19.

James Lewis, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of biological sciences, has received an $18,400 International Visiting Fellowship from the University of Western Sydney to do research in Australia. Lewis will be working with David Tissue, Ph.D., director in the Centre for Plant and Food Science at the Richmond, New South Wales, campus.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
associate professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, published an article titled “Public Perceptions of how Media and NGOs Contribute to Civil Society in Croatia’s Accession to the EU” in the International Journal of Communication. In November, Napoli presented two papers on media ownership regulation and Internet governance at the annual meeting of the National Communication Association.

Aristotle Papanikolaou, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of theology co-founding director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Program, recently published “Orthodox Theology” in volume 5 of the Encyclopedia of Christianity, and “Personhood and its Exponents in Twentieth-Century Orthodox Theology” in The Cambridge Companion to Christian Orthodox Theology (Cambridge University Press, 2008).

Francis Petit, Ed.D., BUS,
assistant dean and director of executive programs for the Graduate School of Business Administration, and Bill Lindsey, Ph.D., associate dean and EMBA program director at Loyola Marymount University, co-published “The Real Solution—A Just Society” in The Executive Educator, Loyola Marymount University, November/ December 2008.

Christopher Schmidt-Nowara, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of history, was quoted in the story “The Tale of the Teeth,” Chem Matters (December 2008), published by the American Chemical Society. Schmidt-Nowara also published an article entitled “Colonial Slave Societies Compared” in Our Story: Journal of the New Jersey Council for History Education (2008).

Ellen Silber, Ph.D., GSS,
professor of French language and literature, has received the Purpose Prize Fellowship for Innovation from Civic Ventures, a national think tank on baby boomers. Silber was named a fellow for Mentoring Latinas, a program in which college Latinas mentor middle school Latinas to inspire them to graduate from high school and go on to college.
