associate professor of sociology and anthropology, led all-day workshops on adolescent sexuality at the Masimanyane Women’s Support Centre on Sept. 17-18. In attendance were young women and public educators from the East London, Eastern Cape (South Africa) region. Flavin is in South Africa on a Fulbright scholarship.

visiting assistant professor of communication and media studies, has published Sitcom Society: Social Stratification and Social Mobility in Situation Comedy (VDM Verlag Dr. Muller, 2009)

Elizabeth Johnson, C.S.J., A&S,
Distinguished Professor of Theology, received the University of Dayton’s annual Marianist Award for her contributions to Catholic intellectual life, on Sept. 8.

Joseph Koterski, S.J., A&S,
associate professor of philosophy, has published An Introduction to Medieval Philosophy: Basic Concepts (Blackwell, 2009).

Kathleen M. Malara, ADM,
director of Student Health Services, organized the 2009 Female Athlete Triad Coalition annual meeting, held at the Lincoln Center campus on Sept. 25-26.

Philip M. Napoli, Ph.D., BUS,
professor of communications and media management and director of the Donald McGannon Communication Research Center, published, “Audience Measurement, the Diversity Principle, and the First Amendment Right to Construct the Audience,” in the St. John’s Journal of Civil Rights and Economic Development.

Mark Naison, Ph.D., A&S,
professor of African-American Studies and history and principal investigator of the Bronx African American History Project (BAAHP), gave a talk on Sept. 23 at Marist College on “Migration and Musical Creativity in Bronx Neighborhoods: How Hybrid Musical Forms that Arose in the South Bronx Helped Reshape American National Identity.”

Silvana Patriarca, Ph.D., A&S,
associate professor of history, received a fellowship to serve as Directeur d’études invite, at the École Pratique des Hautes Études University in Paris, France in November.

Nicholas Paul, Ph.D., A&S,
assistant professor of history, has received a Mellon Fellowship for Assistant Professors at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, for the academic year 2009-2010.

Francis Petit, Ed.D., BUS,
assistant dean and director of executive programs, was recently selected to serve as a member of theBusiness Education and Accreditation (Journal) Editorial Advisory Board for a two year appointment. His article, “An Exploratory Analysis of Incorporating Customer Experience Frameworks within an EMBA Program,” will appear in the 2009 edition of the journal.

Mitchell Rabinowitz, Ph.D., GSE,
professor of education and chair of the Division of Psychological and Educational Services, has been asked to serve as principal member for the Basic Processes Research Review Panel, for The Institute of Education Sciences.

Janet Ruffing, RSM, Ph.D., GRE,
professor in spirituality, has had her article “Resisting the Demon of Busyness,” reprinted in Spiritual Life (Fall 2009).
