Chancellor to Address GSE Conference on Principalship

New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, who heads up the largest public school system in the United States with more than 1.1 million students, will address the Graduate School of Education’s (GSE) second annual leadership conference for New York City principals on Monday, April 14.

Klein will deliver the keynote address at “Redefining the Principalship in an Age of Accountability and Assessment,” a half-day conference at the McNally Amphitheatre on the Lincoln Center campus. Under Klein’s leadership, principals have been given additional control over budget and instruction within schools. His address will be followed by responses from a panel of experts that include:

•    Ernest Logan, president, New York City Council of Supervisors and Administrators;
•    Aminda Gentile, vice president for educational issues, New York City United Federation of Teachers;
•    Martine Guerrier, chief family engagement officer, New York City Department of Educaton; and
•    Katrina Constantino, superintendent, Community School District 20, New York City Department of Education.
