Fordham’s Poet in Residence Awarded Sandeen Prize

Janet Kaplan, poet in residence at Fordham, has received the Ernest Sandeen Prize in Poetry from the University of Notre Dame for her collection of prose poems and prose sonnets, Dreamlife of a Philanthropist. The award includes cash prizes and advances and publication by University of Notre Dame Press.

The Sandeen Prize in Poetry, sponsored by Notre Dame University’s creative writing program, is awarded annually to authors who have published at least one volume of poetry. Sandeen Prize Judge Cornelius Eady said Kaplan’s book “stands out for its vitality and range, in terms of content certainly, but also because of its stylistic reach.”

Kaplan’s earlier collection,The Glazier’s Country (Fordham University Press, 2003) was the winner of the 2003 Poets Out Loud Prize.
